Tony Edwards: Jake and the Kid - 'Grand Plans' 1995

Nick plays a stranger who calls himself Mac Smith, who turns up on the farm one day and takes a job. The local baseball team has been having a really bad season, and when Mac takes over as pitcher, they start to rally. The man has a wonderful arm.

It begins to come to light that Mac Smith is really Tony Edwards, a convict who has escaped from the local jail. Jake and the kid persuade him to go back to serve out his sentence, after he helps the Crocus Locusts to their win against a rival team.

Nick has said that this was his favorite role to date, and that the show moved him to tears.

Grand Plans was the first time that Nick worked with director Martin Wood. Martin said in an interview at the premier of Impossible Elephant that Nick's performance and warmth as Tony are the reasons that he chose Nick to portray Steven Harris.
