(Mac27 is an android in Show Time's Outer Limits. There are a series of episodes linking to this theme.)
What is a Mac27?
Mac 27 is an android is a robot in human form. Nick Played Mac 27, which is version 27 of the Mark 12 Innobotics standard frame, adapted for farm and industrial use. So the Mac27 is the skin or outer appearance. Mac is an abbreviation of MacDonald, the name being derived from a popular song, 'Old MacDonald had a farm'. Although described as "Little more than a tractor or a forklift, this is a highly sophisticated machine.
Who made them?
A firm called Innobotics makes and markets androids. (I would not recommend buying stock in it. On the series, they are batting one hundred for failure. Given the circumstances of failure, they are probably going to be facing lawsuits.)
We know of at least one prototype and four models:
Mark 12 is the basic frame and workings for farm androids.
Mac27, which probably classifies both the looks and the programming for the model.
Some type of soldier model as seen in an episode called "The Camp"
Valerie23 is a model developed to help people with disabilities. They are highly complex and simulate emotions. She falls in love with her owner and becomes excessively jealous of his relationship with a female friend. Her owner ultimately kills her, not before she tells him that she is afraid to die.
Mary25 who was developed as the prototype of a nanny program. This of course also goes awry.
In another episode, androids are hunted after they are no longer useful.
In addition, Innobotics has developed a virtual program with simulated companions who also have a bad habit of developing independent thought and obsessions about their owners.
People involved in Innobotics include
Dr Keeler who works in product development.
Fairman, a woman who appears to be a kind of robot analyst and troubleshooter.
Nash, a man heading a team that hunts down rogue robots. The fact that he exists and that there are tracking tools makes me think that this is not the first time problems have occurred.
How many Mac 27s are there?
At least 10,000, this is the number given for those about to be released for sale at the start of the episode.
What materials are used in making a Mac 27?
They have an outer layer of some type of very realistic flesh like substance, which is not really very tough. This is injured by bullets and by a blunt object in the show.
Mac27 has glass eyes, which move, blink, and appear to have a form of moisture.
The main frame appears to be metal. There are metal plates, which lift to reveal the inner workings such as the tubes and blinking gadgets.
There are tube-like things, which appear to be important in the motor operations. These leak green fluid.
Operating system is a neural network, which can be made to interphase with a human by plugging a jack into the Mac 27s neck and a combination of earpiece and sensors, which can be connected to the humans face.
Does Mac27 have any tattoos?
Yes, he does, but it's only a tattoo of his name on his arm.
Does Mac27 have a human brain?
Not apparently, but a human brain can be downloaded into his sophisticated neural system as seen in an Outer Limit's episode, Identity Crisis
If my Mac27 goes missing, how can I find him?
A damaged Mac27 leaks electromagnetic emissions, which may or may not be mistaken for microwave transmitters or electric power generators.
Is my Mac27 conscious of his existence as independent life?
Yes, he felt the urge to escape when he felt something in his neural processors. He ran to escape the danger and preserve his life. He also trembles when he experiences fear.
Can my Mac27 fall in love?
Yes, but they can be very jealous unless carefully programmed. Other androids have murdered out of jealousy.
Can my Mac 27 kill?
Yes, indeed, he may kill to save his life.
How do "The Three Laws of Robotics" as described by Isaac Asimov apply to Mac27s?
One may wish to have an Asimov modifier installed in one's Mac 27. This will install the following override program:
(These laws are credited to Isaac Asimov and John Campbell)
1. A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
From Handbook of Robotics, 56th Edition, 2058 A.D., as quoted in I, Robot.
In Robots and Empire (ch. 63), the "Zeroth Law" is extrapolated, and the other Three Laws modified accordingly. A robot may not injure humanity or, through inaction, allow humanity to come to harm. Unlike the Three Laws, however, the Zeroth Law is not a fundamental part of positronic robotic engineering, is not part of all positronic robots.
Now on to what we have developed so far in our wicked little heads for the Nick Zone Game:
Who are the Mac27s running from?
We don't know exactly. It appears to be from two groups. One definitely is Innobotics, which has recalled them and intends to destroy them.
The other may be some member or members of the Consortium.
Are all Mac27s fully functional?
So far we know that the 900 series is not. They run on beer, but will accept soda pop as an alternative. They have no anus and no interest in sex. They look down on Mac27s that engage in human-android relations.
Are any Mac27s programmed for bedroom duties?
Oh, yes! Some like unfortunate Mac27 #77 AKA Mac Brown are customized for BDSM play and have exquisite nervous systems to react to pain.
Others are highly programmed sex slaves. Others were made for specific tasks but still don't mind a roll in the hay.
Romeo and Jules are unique as they are monogamous with each other. They also invented a unique robot sex act by connecting their repair feed back loops to each other during sex.
Most Mac27s are fully functional for sex. They are capable of sustaining erections as long as needed. They enjoy being anally penetrated and are self lubing and cleaning.
What else are my Mac27s good for?
Uses so far have been personal care and companion such as Trey-Trey MacDuff, Mac27#33. Chefs such as Mac27#201. Farm worker such as Mac 27#55.
What should I feed my Mac27?
Mac 27 900s prefer beer. They can also run on soda pop, but this is not the best energy source.
Other Mac27s run most efficiently on chocolate. Any form of sugar is a good fuel source. They can use other foods, but need these in higher bulk.
Do Mac27s sleep?
They need to shut down for fuel conservation unless they have consumed excellent food sources such as Tiramisu, chocolate clairs, chocolate milk shakes, and Hershey Dark Chocolate Select. Admirable results can also be obtained by feeding See's Dark Chocolate with nuts.
Can Mac27s communicate with each other at long distances?
Yes, they will also come to each other's aid when a signal comes across the main wave.
Is my Mac27 an individual or a hive being?
He is an individual, but has some characteristics of a hive creature. He may learn interesting things from other Mac 27s. He can become violent if his life is threatened and will go to the aid of another android.
Will my Mac27 defend me?
Let's put it this wayhow much tiramisu and sexual pleasure have you given him? In the case of Mac 27 900 series, I would have Methos recommend a good German beer.
