"I don't wanna talk to you anymore. I'm afraid of what I might say."
Turning, I walk away from her, walk away from Kara, leaving behind her brittle beauty and narrow views. There are no words left to speak as I take with me all that I was, and go to seek that which I can become.
There is an invisible fabric around me, it molds itself to me, and although flimsy it doesnt tear, whatever strain is placed on it. The fabric is love.
Did I love her? I thought that I did, but now I wonder. I see her choices from a vantage point so high that they seem petty and small. The love I take with me is for more than one small, narrow minded woman.
With me I take the memories of sunshine and cold metal against my skin. I take the feel of sand against my feet and the vision of the moon seen through storm-torn clouds. Laughter and music come with me, and the jingle of a cash register, the roar of the crowd when a home run is hit. I take the scent of baking bread, frying bacon and good, dark roast coffee.
Children and falling leaves, a sigh and a symphony, all come with me and nothing is lost.
The blow as a bullet finds me is hardly unexpected, but it doesnt halt me, and as I pass, I take with me the sum of the joy that I have found. Stepping from this world into the next is a blaze of light, cold fire bathing my damaged flesh as I melt away.
Love comes with me. That fabric doesnt tear.
And all that is human will go on.
The End
