Pairing: Tom McLaren

Spoilers: Vertical Limit

Rated: PG. (If even that, it's more or less what's underlying. If you don't catch it, then I haven't done my part right.

Author's Notes: This little (by little I mean EXTREMELY short) snippet takes place just before Tom dies. I assume he's delirious so this might not sound sane, but then again he's not meant to. Just so you know, the 'she' is not a person, if you've seen the movie, you'll know what I mean, if you haven't I'll just hint and say it's his…obsession. Enjoy. Oh, one more thing. This is my first story so please be kind though constructive criticism is more then welcome.

I see those eye again, those dark mysterious frightening eyes. Sometimes they hold and sooth me, and yet at other times they fear me. But tonight, it's different. Tonight I see something else in those eyes. They've lost their wonder, their hidden, unseen nature.

I don't know who it is. Nor do I care. They simply are. Beauty and peace that will outlast the highest mountain, the most potent and strong of immortals. They are my eternal companions, my mistress of the night. They guard the Nile and watch the gates of heaven. For it is in them that I find peace, rest, the solace of eternity.

I know something's wrong, I know that something's about to happen, but I can't struggle, can't think. For they hold me in their thrall, but I… I have to fight… have to survive… don't I? Yet I suddenly don't know. And I wonder slowly, why I ever did. I've always feared losing this battle, this game, losing my will to her. But she has always been my… inamorata, my brush with death, my unbendable obsession.

For so long I'd sought only the thrill of the climb, That high. Then it had happened, I meet her, saw her dark, secretive eyes. Saw her mystery, her wonder, and her power. Yet even then in fleeting glance. But now I see her clearly. For that gaze lies now unwavering. And now I know. Now I know that Dark ecstasy that she offers me, I found her… found it long ago, and now I know, for she is my angel, my angel of death.
